Senior Development Engineer

Job Description

The role covers all aspects of product development from concept through to product release. Typically involving detailing specifications, circuit design, modelling, breadboard design, product testing, product approvals and technical documentation.

Duties & Responsibilities

    * Developing conceptual requirements into specifications and project plans
    * Designing, implementing and testing new electronic products
    * Producing schematics, BOMs and control documentation to company requirements
    * Interfacing with and managing key suppliers
    * Taking responsibility for managing projects and ensuring their timely completion
    * Testing products to satisfy performance and approval requirements
    * Producing documentation and test reports to required standards
    * Supporting and specifying suitable production test equipment

Personal Profile

    * Educated to degree level or equivalent (control systems in medical sector advantageous)
    * Microprocessor software skills
    * Power electronics, RFID
    * Microprocessor control and signal conditioning
    * Broad range of experience at the board level, including digital design, analog, RF
    * Capable of working both alone and as part of a small multi-disciplined team
    * Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly
    * Flexible and able to prioritise tasks
    * Effective time-management skills
    * Someone willing to give long-term commitment to the company
    * Ideally someone residing and settled in the local area

Principal Electronic Development Engineer

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

    * Developing conceptual requirements into specifications and project plans
    * Designing, implementing and testing new electronic products
    * Producing schematics, PCB designs, BOMs and control documentation to company requirements
    * Interfacing with and managing key suppliers
    * Taking responsibility for managing projects and ensuring their timely completion
    * Testing products to satisfy performance and approval requirements
    * Producing documentation and test reports to required standards
    * Supporting and specifying suitable production test equipment

Qualifications and Experience

    * Educated to degree level or equivalent (PhD in Power Electronics advantageous)
    * Power electronics (up to 100kW) and motor control background
    * Microprocessor control and signal conditioning
    * Broad range of experience at the board level, including digital design, analog, RF, PCB layout
    * Experience of SMPS, DCDC converter, IGBT/Mosfet selection and evaluation, BLDC inverter stage
    * Automotive experience is highly desirable, though not a prerequisite
    * Capable of working both alone and as part of a small multi-disciplined team
    * Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly
    * Flexible and able to prioritise tasks
    * Effective time-management skills
    * Someone willing to give long-term commitment to the company
    * Ideally someone residing and settled in the local area

Mechanical Design Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities

    * Design of new product schemes & layouts in conjunction with concept models and target customer requirements, suppliers and internal departments
    * Creation of design documentation to enable production including component drawings, assembly documentation & BOMs
    * General administration tasks including documentation control and supplier queries
    * Processing modifications to existing designs using engineering change note system
    * Assisting in reviewing design system/methods in order to constantly improve, including Solidworks, and all design procedures
    * Technical/Engineering reporting as required
    * Assisting in setting up and controlling value engineering methods for cost reduction programmes
    * Design, technical and application support including raising and maintaining appropriate files
    * Supporting production with design and technical support
    * Completing timesheets & project time management

Personal Profile

    * Preferably degree qualified (Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent (minimum HNC) with proven relevant experience
    * Experience of designing rotating mechanical equipment
    * Good understanding of limits and fits required
    * Experience in 3D-modelling software is essential (preferably Solidworks but other packages considered)
    * Mechanical apprenticeship/experience of hands-on engineering
    * Familiarity with COSMOS preferred (or equivalent e.g. ANSYS)
    * Capable of working both alone and as part of a small multi-disciplined team
    * Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly
    * Flexible and able to prioritise tasks
    * Effective time-management skills
    * Someone willing to give long-term commitment to the company
    * Ideally someone residing and settled in the local area
